Scratchboard Animals

These illustrations are meant to challenge a whole new style to drawing. The style is usually done by hand on real paper, but I wanted to try it digitally. We also had to pick a topic when creating these, so I chose 3 animals native to Puerto Rico.

When illustrating these, it was quite a challenge because of not drawing the shadows, but rather creating highlights to push and pull values. After getting the idea of it, I found that this style is very different, but also changes the way in which you visualize the world around you. I also wanted to play with the background creating, dynamic shapes and patterns to bring the focal point to the animal.
